Busy Times
The past few months have beet busy for us. I had a baby and potty trained a 21 month old. John did some major car repair (the white Maxima drives on...quietly now) and made some shelves. We have had wonderful visitors and we made an unexpected trip up to northern Virginia for Christmas.
Genevieve Ann is now 3 months old and thriving. She's a cheeky one! She is a sweet little baby and has started laughing, grasping and is trying to role over. Rachel loves her new little sister and has been very gentle with her so far. She loves it when Genevieve laughs and is very concerned when she cries.
Two babies in cloth diapers was one too many for me. Shortly after Genevieve was born, Rachel was potty trained. We did EC with her from 2 to 6 months and started again at a year old, so she learned quickly. It took a few days barricaded in the kitchen with lots of underwear and little potties and she has been in underwear ever since.
John made and put up some beautiful shelves for our linens. He is also re-finishing a dresser for Rachel. He is still (always will be) our most excellent mechanic. He replaced the exhaust on his Nissan Maxima...and that's all I remember. The rest is a blur because I was concerned with the two paragraphs above. There were a lot of car parts lying around the garage; it was propped up in all different directions and there were a lot of fluids going in and out. I did help bleed the clutch and breaks and measure to align the wheels, so they must have been replaced too. JD will have to comment on this one.
My mom and my nieces, Sarah (Tara's oldest) and Katie (Karrie's youngest) came to help out when Genevieve arrived. They stayed a month and were an amazing support. Genevieve was only around the last week they stayed. False labor brought them down early. oops! John's mom and brother came down for Thanksgiving. Rachel had a blast with her Gyamma and uncle Paul.
My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. When my sister called with the news, we drove up to Northern Virginia to be with my mom and family. Just before Christmas, she went into the ER for severe abdominal pain. They found tumors on her ovaries and scheduled surgery a couple days later. The doctor thinks he removed all the cancer and she is now undergoing Chemotherapy. One treatment down; five to go. The incision was large in order for the doctor to examine all her organs for cancer. She recovered (still is) from the surgery remarkably well and was home for Christmas Eve and Day. We give God the glory for His peace through it all. He has His loving hands on my mom's life. What a precious gift my family received for Christmas this year! John, the girls and I had the blessing of staying with Grampy for Christmas this year. (my mom's dad) We love him and we really enjoyed our time with him!
Karrie cared for my mom during recovery so her kids, Emily, Michael and Katie came to stay with us for a couple of weeks. John flew down with Rachel and I drove with Genevieve and the kids. We got to learn more about our nieces and nephew. They are pretty neat! We had school in the morning and played in the evening with some field trips in between. We shared a lot of laughter during their stay! Our good friends, Marisa and Jeremy Beck, drove down for a visit just after the New Year and Karrie stayed for a little while when she came down to pick up her kids.
It was a busy and blessed season for all!

Charlotte Library
We rode the train into down town Charlotte once with our neighbors and once with Karrie. Destination: The Public Library. This Library was designed just for kids and was pretty amazing inside. We all had a great time!
